After 15 years of lying inactive, the Palm Jebel Ali project has been restarted, and many of us are interested to see how the new palm will turn out.

Dredging for the Palm Jebel Ali began in 2002, and work on it ended in 2008. The island, which is twice the size of Palm Jumeirah, has lain inactive ever since, despite rumors last year that Nakheel will be restarting the project and altering its name.

Facts:

• There will be a total of seven interconnected islands.
• The artificial island will be 13.4 sq km in size, double that of Palm Jumeirah.
• It will extend Dubai's shoreline by 110 kilometres.
• On the island, 80 hotels and resorts will be built.
• There will be about 35,000 families living there.
• All public buildings will use renewable energy to power 30% of them.

With 110km of coastline, twice the size of the Palm Jumeirah, the beaches and greenery will provide a high standard of living for its citizens, while more than 80 hotels, malls, and attractions will be available to tourists and visitors.
